I have wanted to be a midwife for as long as I can remember. My mom was a Lamaze Childbirth Educator and raised me to believe that pregnancy and childbirth were normal life events that should not be feared. Somewhere along the line as a lost teenager, I decided I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and ended up attending the United States Military Academy at West Point where I graduated and served as an officer in the Army for 5 years. I met my husband in the Army and was honorably discharged in 2006 shortly after the birth of our son. I had a wonderful and uneventful pregnancy and childbirth with him, thanks to the confidence instilled in me by my mother. In 2008, our daughter was born and while we knew we were done having children, I felt like I was still very connected to pregnancy, labor, delivery and breastfeeding and could not imagine being totally done with these life changing moments. I decided to go back to nursing school to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a midwife. I graduated and worked on a postpartum unit for a year before returning to school to get my midwifery degree. While attending midwifery school, I worked with a home birth midwife where I learned so much about the art of midwifery and trusting in the processes of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding. It was there I really began to understand the power and strength that women innately possess. I was honored to witness countless labors where women labored and birthed beautifully in the comfort of their own homes and no outside intervention.
We moved to San Antonio in 2014 and I began working at St. Luke's Baptist on Labor and Delivery where I met and fell in love with the Lone Star Midwives. I was fortunate to do my midwifery clinical rotations as a student with them and am so excited to be joining them as a certified nurse-midwife. Serving women and building their confidence in their ability to grow, birth, and mother their children is my passion. I truly believe that the birth process is the gateway for women to learn that they can do anything, giving them the confidence to go on and enter the daunting world of parenting. I look forward to serving the women of San Antonio and working with the awesome team of midwives to provide passionate, evidence based care to women throughout their life-span.
